2022 NIU football game promotions celebrate alumni, community and more

DeKALB, Illinois – A full slate of promotional days, sponsor giveaways, Northern Illinois University’s 115th homecoming and the Orange Bowl team’s 10th anniversary celebration are some of the highlights surrounding six Husky football home games in 2022.

Before every home game, all fans are invited yard on the west side of Husky Stadium, a free gathering place. The Yard features music, visiting Husky Marching Bands, Silverettes and cheerleaders, inflatables, games, a Kids Zone available for purchase of food and beverages, as well as Husky Athletic Fund tents. This year, NIU’s new radio flagship station – 94-9 WDKB – will host the “Toyota Husky Nation Pre-Game Party” starting 90 minutes before kickoff from The Yard. During November’s MACtion games, the yard moves into the chess practice center.

Thursday, September 1 is the season opener Faculty and Staff Appreciation Day All NIU employees are eligible to purchase tickets through a “buy one, get one free” offer. To take advantage of this opportunity, faculty and staff can email [email protected] with their NIU email address to receive a promo code or present their staff ID at the game day ticket windows.

NIU’s game continues Saturday, Sept. 17 vs. Vanderbilt Established as a special day to be celebrated by NIU 2012 Huskie team’s 10th anniversary That made a historic run to the Orange Bowl by winning the MAC Championship in a double overtime thriller over Kent State. Team players will gather over the weekend and be introduced on the field at halftime. There is also a Vanderbilt game Band Day and Scout Day. October 8th, Alumni, fans and more are invited to celebrate “Coming Home to NIU.” 115th HomecomingWith the NIU football team taking on Toledo at 2:30 p.m. in one of the nation’s oldest celebrations, a full slate of events on campus is planned throughout the week, and NIU athletics is included in that schedule. 2022 Hall of Fame Class of Friday, October 7th, including the current Husky head coach Thomas Hammock, football’s Chandler Harnish and Chad Spann and volleyball standout Christine Hoffman. In addition, NIU is celebrating 50th Anniversary of Title IX On Homecoming weekend, as female student-athletes from throughout Huskies history — more than 1,900 in all — are invited back to join current members of NIU’s women’s sports teams and participate in homecoming festivities. A special brunch and panel revisiting that history will take place on Sunday, October 9 at the NIU Convocation Center.

For MACtion games on Wednesday, Nov. 2 against Central Michigan, the Huskies will recognize hometown heroes, including members of the military and first responders, while NIU takes on Miami (Ohio) for the Mallory Cup on Wednesday, Nov. 16. The late Bill Mallory, who led both teams to MAC titles in storied careers.

Finally, fans are invited to cap off their Thanksgiving weekend with a traditional Saturday game on Nov. 26 when NIU will gift Akron for Senior Day with a special replica jersey courtesy of Old National Bank that day.

The Senior Day jersey giveaway is one of at least four different giveaways throughout the season offered by NIU sports sponsors. The first 1,000 fans at the September 1 season opener will receive 1St State Bank Drawstring Bag. For the Vanderbilt game, get the Huskie branded FNBO headband. A homecoming giveaway is in the works with game sponsor Northwestern Medicine. Giveaway supplies are limited, so be sure to get to the gates early.

The Akron game is also the second of two “Pop Club Days” of the season, with NIU Pop Club members receiving tickets to both the Oct. 8 homecoming game and the home season finale. There are also several in-game promotions, such as the Hy-Vee Kick where fans will have the opportunity to win free groceries for a year at five of NIU’s six home games.
