Dahua Technologies develops first electronic security project in Antarctica News

HANGZHOU, China–( BUSINESS WIRE )– Aug. 24, 2022–

For the first time in history, Antarctica has a video security project, developed by Dahua Technology: the company donated 15 security cameras, which were installed on the “White Continent” to enable 24-hour footage on scientific grounds, to increase contact and connectivity. Scientists on the ground, and improved knowledge of local fauna and meteorology.

Dahua not only donated the equipment but also developed it specifically for the project, keeping in mind that it is a very cold, poorly connected remote area. The new project fulfills an important need, as the area previously did not have security cameras that connect the common base to the Argentine capital.

“The most difficult part of the project was getting specialized cameras that could withstand low temperatures and weather conditions to provide optimal results based on the field’s needs,” explained Jose Varas, BDM engineer at Dahua Technologies. .

The project is a closed-circuit television (CCTV) solution that can handle extreme weather conditions. It allows all cameras installed in Argentina Antarctica to be viewed in real time from an external screen to the Antarctic Joint Command headquarters, paving the way for a deeper understanding of scientific research in the region.

“Temperatures of -30 degrees Celsius made it difficult to fix the devices due to strong winds, double gloves and the constant rotation of technicians to handle the equipment,” said Sebastian Mirich, president of Mirich Electronic Security. , who was responsible for the installation. “However, the installation was a success and the cameras are working and coping with the harsh and demanding Antarctic climate,” he added.

“Increasing connectivity and providing a closer look at the activities that take place there, such as various environmental studies and assessment of flora and fauna growth, as well as providing greater safety on the runway every time an aircraft arrives, is something fundamental to continue exploration in this area,” said MarCom Manager of Dahua Technologies. Julia Anschutz added.

This project is key to supporting positive development and growth in the parts of the region that need it most. Apart from contributing to ecological research and sustainable development in Antarctica, the project represents the next step in Dahua’s commitment to integrating digital intelligence technology into the protection, defense and enhancement of the environment.
