Kevin Durant remains a member of Brooklyn Net Despite his June 30 trade request.
The Boston Celtics, Toronto Raptors, Phoenix Suns and Miami Heat have been repeatedly mentioned as potential suitors to acquire the 33-year-old star, who Brooklyn has placed a hefty price tag on.
But a new report from The Athletic says the Memphis Grizzlies have made “new inquiries” into Durant.
Recently, Boston reportedly offered Jaylen Brown, Derrick White and a future first-round draft pick to Brooklyn for Durant. Meanwhile, reports suggest the Grizzlies are willing to part with a plethora of first-round draft picks to acquire Durant.
All that said, the report states that Brooklyn’s trade talks with other teams have been “non-existent” of late. Boston isn’t willing to move big man Robert Williams III, Memphis isn’t willing to move young players like Desmond Benn and Jaren Jackson Jr., Toronto isn’t willing to move Scotty Barnes, and the Brooklyn Suns aren’t interested in a trade package. Mikal Bridges and future first-round draft picks.
Additionally, Miami has shown no interest in moving All-Star center Bam Adebayo, while the Philadelphia 76ers, Denver Nuggets and Milwaukee Bucks have checked in on Durant trade options.
Given the difficult state of his trade market, could Durant suit up for the Nets on opening night of the 2022-23 NBA season? Furthermore, could he make do with Kyrie Irving exercising his $36.5 million player option for next season and then being at the center of trade discussions?
Durant and Irving were recently spotted working out together in Los Angeles, and “Undisputed” co-host Shannon Sharp feels the two superstars are a positive development for Brooklyn.
“It looks like they’re on good terms,” Sharpe said. “It’s hard for me to believe that they would be working together if they weren’t on good terms. It doesn’t look like KD is going to be traded, and it’s a good sign for Kyrie if KD doesn’t get traded. It doesn’t look like Kyrie is going to be traded, so It works well for the Brooklyn Nets.
“I don’t know how well that works out for KD. KD probably still wants to move, but it doesn’t look like it. [it will happened] As we get closer to camp, and I don’t see a scenario where they trade him at the trade deadline in the middle of the season. It looks like Kevin Durant will be returning to the Brooklyn Nets for at least another year, and Kyrie Irving will be joining him.”
Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving along with the Nets trade rumors undeniably
Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant worked out together over the weekend. Leave it to Bayless and Shannon Sharp to decide if this is good news for the Brooklyn Nets.
Skip Bayless also feels that Durant and Irving working together bodes well for the Nets.
“X-Factor realized that Kevin demanded the trade because of what he did with Kyrie, Kyrie cheated on him,” Bayless said. “Kyrie rubbed everybody the wrong way because he wasn’t vaccinated. He wasn’t going to participate. I thought it was going to ruin the mentality of this team all year and Kevin couldn’t stomach it, and I thought we got a half-hearted Kevin. In the first round of the playoffs. “
“Boston was very good. Boston’s defense attacked him and made him look weak, forcing him to say ‘No Mass,’ basically. And yet, in the end, he demands a trade because he wants out of Carey, who opted out. . So, you know you’ve got Kyrie there for a year at a very modest rate.”
The Celtics swept the Nets in the first round of the 2022 playoffs. Durant is entering his 15th active NBA season (missing the 2019-20 campaign due to a torn Achilles tendon). He averaged 29.9 points, 7.4 rebounds and 6.4 assists per game last season while shooting 51.8%/38.3%/91.0%.
