Northwell implements new screening technology News

NEW HYDE PARK, NY–( BUSINESS WIRE )–August 23, 2022–

Northwell Health has implemented new comprehensive detection systems that screen for weapons and contraband at entrances to Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park, South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore and Lenox Health Greenwich Village in Manhattan. A seamless walk-through system from Massachusetts-based Evolve Technologies, Evolve Express allows for a touchless experience when screening weapons. The screening process, monitored at each location by Northwell’s security team, is immediate and designed to avoid the bottlenecks and slow lines associated with outdated detection screening processes and techniques.

“The safety, security and well-being of our patients, visitors and team members are our top priorities,” said Northwell President and CEO Michael Dowling. “To help ensure a safe environment for all who enter our facilities – and as part of Northwell’s broader safety and security efforts – we are piloting this next generation of screening tools.”

The high-tech systems, which will also be installed at other facilities in the health system, are part of Northwell’s initiative to maintain the safety of staff, patients and visitors. The effort also includes additional resources and training for team members to increase workplace safety, said Scott Strauss, vice president of safety and support systems.

Northwell has held hundreds of trainings over the years, including active-shooter exercises, seminars on de-escalation techniques and courses on how to respond to bleeding emergencies so that team members are better prepared in the event of a crisis.
