It certainly felt like an episode of Fox’s hit show last week, when contestant Elektra Owl was sent up against Thirsty Von Trapp in a smack-down lip sync to Rihanna’s “Shut Up and Drive.” When asked to reveal himself, Owl was unveiled as ’80s and ’90s dance-pop superstar Taylor Dayne, known for her tenure in recent years. masked singers Popcorn.

Dan’s journey on the show, while short-lived, provided fans with plenty of gag-worthy performances, including last week’s hilarious rendition of the Donna Summer classic “Last Dance.” But also on the show, Dene (then-Elektra) talked about her difficulty with the lip-sync format, and how her enthusiasm for singing live made the challenge even harder than usual.

board Dan spoke to Dan after his elimination about the behind-the-scenes process of the show, his love for RuPaul, and what his experience was like. Mask singer and Drag Race difference

Congratulations to you Secret Celebrity Drag Race Tenure! How was your experience in the program?

Oh my god, okay. I’ve done a few things in my life, but this was just… To see everyone getting ready for this was really something special. It’s exciting, but for some people it’s really transformative. It was pretty wild to watch, and wild to be a part of, I must say.

I really thought it would be easy to tell who everyone was under drag, and I had a hard time placing almost everyone in the cast, including you!

Oh, for real? I think you are getting a good idea of people! But no, it was a truly radical change in many ways. It’s pretty good, it was like a four or five-hour process, getting in the look.

you were big Drag Race A fan before being cast this season?

Oh, I’m a huge fan, and more importantly a huge friend of RuPaul. RuPaul Charles and I go way back, so it starts for me. Anything he’s ever been involved in, you can see … our paths have crossed, obviously musically, and we’ve supported each other. what he has done Drag Race And the LGBTQ community itself, and taking it all to middle-America, if you will, and opening doors, it’s amazing. So, anytime he asks me something, I’m there.

but Drag Raceit is wild I mean, I always have to say that queens have done me better than myself! And I mean it! There’s a form of passion and art that goes into it that I can’t really explain – when you’re really leaving your persona and entering someone else’s persona, it’s huge and incredible.

Well, you mentioned on the show that you found the lip-synching to be the hardest part of it all – did that help give you some new insight into what these queens are doing when they perform?

Well, I mean, it’s an art form! You’ve only seen two episodes β€” you understand, now it’s being left to the artistic dimensions that these other people are bringing to it. I can’t really go into what those upcoming performances are, but I can promise you that you’ll see things that I really didn’t think would be brought up in drag. That’s not it should do Drag, or it can be brought or brought, but this is art. It takes different forms and everyone has their own perception of it.

So now, you have a lot of people who never thought they would be in a pair of heels, and are fun to watch! Now, you are seeing these stories and this art. It was truly mind-blowing to see the growth in the show, as well as the storytelling. Each performance became a vignette, which was great.

Of course, this isn’t your first time competing in a reality series – fans loved you like popcorn. Mask singer. How do you compare? Secret Celebrity Drag Race In that format?

Well, for one, I’d be down on my knees if they voted me into the second episode [laughs]. listen, Mask singer, to me, is a completely different form of art – I’m pulling from a different source there, and of course, there’s a vocal ability and power. I mean, I made it to the semi-finals Mask singer! But my feeling is, underneath that, you’re still developing a character like Elektra Owl – people fell in love with popcorn. You are becoming an individual, and yet at the same time, you are also making artistic choices. So, it’s fun to watch week after week. I think it’s the same thing here, but it’s that my craft is my voice and my music, so Mask singer Choreography for me was not just a moment. It was a very involved process.

But boundaries are everywhere! Many of these guys have never worn bubs and buttpads, so this is a new experience for them.
